Doug Ford and the Ontario PCs Welcome Support from the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers

Endorsement driven by the party’s strong commitment to investing in skilled trades and protecting Ontario workers

BURLINGTON, February 20, 2025 — Today, Doug Ford and the Ontario PCs welcomed an endorsement from the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, which represents members working in various industries across Ontario such as oil refineries, steel mills, nuclear power plants, hydro-electric generating stations and cement plants. Their endorsement reflects the Ontario PCs’ strong commitment to investing in workers, boosting economic growth and protecting Ontario against the threat of President Trump’s tariffs.

“I want to thank Stirling Munn, Jonathan White, Arnie Stadnick and the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers for their strong support,” said Doug Ford. “I’m honoured to stand with Ontario’s skilled workers and I share your commitment to creating good-paying jobs, energy independence and protecting Ontario’s workforce. We’re facing tough challenges with the looming impact of U.S. tariffs, but we will continue to do whatever it takes to protect our workers. Our plan will keep helping our workers build meaningful careers while driving Ontario’s economic growth.”

“The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers is proud to endorse Doug Ford and the Ontario PC Party in this election,” said Jonathan White, Director of Construction Sector Operations Canada. “We know Doug Ford and his team understand the importance of building a strong future for Ontario’s workers during this uncertain time. They’ve shown a real commitment to protecting Ontario jobs by investing in the industries and infrastructure projects that our members depend on every day. Their focus on skilled trades, backed by their investments in the Skills Development Fund, has opened the door for more Boilermakers to secure solid, good-paying work.”

“Under Doug Ford’s leadership, Ontario’s workers are seeing real action that benefits us every day,” said Arnie Stadnick, International Vice-President Canada, International Brotherhood of Boilermakers. “Their investments are creating the solid, dependable work that our members count on. Plus, the Skills Development Fund has given many Boilermakers the chance to grow and develop the skills they need to take advantage of these opportunities. Doug’s unwavering focus on growing skilled trades and creating good jobs makes him the clear choice for Ontario’s workforce.”

Since 2018, the Ontario PCs have supported and invested significantly in the skilled trades, including the following:

  • Over $6.5 million to Boilermakers Local 128 through the Skills Development Fund to help train members who work on vessels, boilers, furnaces and storage tanks. This also includes over $5.2 million to build a new training centre in Sudbury.
  • More than $63 million to help students and young people get first-hand experience and prepare for future careers in the skilled trades.
  • Creating a new 27-week job-protected long-term illness leave for workers with a serious medical condition.
  • Putting money back into workers’ pockets by waiving the fee for apprentices taking their first Certificate of Qualification exam, saving each apprentice up to $570 throughout their apprenticeship journey.

Only Doug Ford has a plan to protect Ontario:

  • Building Ontario’s economy by investing more than $200 billion in our plan to build roads, highways, transit and other infrastructure projects while investing $2.5 billion to train more than one million people for better jobs and bigger paycheques in the skilled trades.
  • Protecting workers in the face of President Trump’s tariffs by doing whatever is necessary to protect people’s livelihoods, including by investing tens of billions of dollars to keep people working.
  • Keeping us competitive by fighting the job-killing Liberal carbon tax and urging the federal government to cut red tape and streamline approvals to get big things built.
  • Cleaning up our streets by protecting families and children by banning drug injection sites near schools and daycares and clearing out encampments from public parks with new investments in shelters.
  • Delivering better care, including by investing $1.8 billion more to connect everyone in Ontario to a family doctor and primary care.

Doug Ford will never stop working to protect Ontario.
