Ontario’s PC government is getting shovels in the ground on the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment, a generational project that will create 30,500 good-paying jobs and secure reliable, affordable and clean energy for decades to come.
When the previous Liberal government planned to shut down Pickering, putting thousands of jobs at risk, our PC team chose a different path. We chose to protect Ontario workers, strengthen our homegrown nuclear industry and build for the future.
Now, construction is officially underway on one of Canada’s largest clean energy infrastructure projects.
The refurbishment will extend the life of Pickering’s four CANDU reactors by up to 38 years and, once complete, provide up to 2,200 megawatts of reliable electricity, enough to power 2.2 million homes.
And we’re making sure the benefits stay here at home.
More than 90 per cent of project spending will remain in Ontario and Canada, supporting Canadian workers, local businesses and our made-in-Ontario nuclear supply chain. The project is expected to contribute $41.6 billion to Canada’s GDP while generating billions in economic activity across Durham Region and Ontario.
With electricity demand expected to rise significantly in the decades ahead, our PC government is building the energy infrastructure Ontario needs to power new homes, attract investment and create good-paying jobs.
The Pickering refurbishment is part of one of the most ambitious nuclear energy expansions in North America, which is expected to create up to 150,000 jobs and generate more than $800 billion in economic activity.
At a time when President Trump’s tariffs are creating economic uncertainty, Ontario needs to be more competitive, more self-reliant and less dependent on other countries.
That means building here at home.
